Industry focus: Architecture, Engineering and Design

Private company owners tend to focus their annual analysis on how results compare to last year. But a comparison to industry trends can provide an informative assessment on where the company stands in relation to the competition.

One of our goals as business advisors is to provide this insight to our clients. In this first Industry Focus, we are providing key financial results and trends for the Architectural, Engineering and Related Services industry within the private sector in Canada.

These metrics draw on financial information from 37 Canadian companies for 2015 and 56 Canadian companies for 2014. The results in the table below show a relatively consistent net profit margin, but considerable increases in sales and profit growth in 2014 and 2015.

We have also provided additional details on Architectural, Engineering and Related Services industry financial ratios and income statement and balance sheet metrics. This data can be used to help business owners understand their position in the market and make key financial and operational decisions.
