Organizing your personal tax documents

As we look to begin the personal tax season, we wanted to provide you with some assistance in gathering your information. While our office remains closed, we are continuing to collaborate and work together from our respective homes. As you know, the personal tax filing due date is extended to June 1st, and now is the time to take a look at the Personal Tax Organizer and Schedules on our website and prepare your documents. This year, we have added Excel spreadsheets for your detailed listings of charitable donations and medical expenses, in case this may be useful for you to provide the details in this format instead of scanning multiple documents and receipts.

We are continuing to seek alternatives to allow us to work remotely by using paperless methods, and we again encourage you to submit documents via our online client portal or by email. We understand this may be a change to how you are used to providing information to us, so here are some suggestions:

  • If you do not have a scanner, you could download this Adobe Acrobat Scanner app for your mobile device.

  • Ask your Investment Advisor to forward the full tax package to you electronically.

  • Reach out our Admin team (cancian@ftspcpa.com / 416-229-2221) for assistance in using our online portal.

We understand there may be circumstances where you will need to submit some or all of your tax documents to us in paper format. We ask for your patience and understanding that the processing time for your return may be longer than otherwise, as we will need to coordinate safety and logistics of handling paper documents. Please reach out to your regular FTSP contact directly if you need to make arrangements for the delivery of your paper documents.

From all of us at FTSP, wishing you and your family health and peace during these unusual times.
