We were proud sponsors again this year of Distinctive Women's IGNITE conference, and several members of our team had the opportunity to attend. Distinctive Women is a publication and online community showcasing female professionals, leaders and entrepreneurs across Canada. The organization focuses on building exposure for members while connecting like-minded women and encouraging collaboration.
With the theme of igniting mind, body and business, the conference featured panels of experts as well as highlighting sponsors, so that over the course of the conference the attendees learned about a variety of industries, businesses and areas of expertise.
Shimmerman Penn sponsored the lunch, at which Managing Partner, Maj-Lis Vettoretti spoke about our firm. Maj-Lis introduced the firm by saying we are not your typical accountants. Our entrepreneurial team gains a full understanding of our clients' business, goals and challenges and builds long-term relationships, based on trust and integrity. Maj-Lis also gave an overview of our firm's capabilities in assurance, tax, industry sectors and our international reach through PrimeGlobal associate firms.
Maj-Lis and senior manager Noha Yahia Abji also participated in the "room of interaction" as accounting experts. In this space, participants could choose three experts to speak to for 20 minutes at a time. We had interesting questions from someone who had just started her own business, as well as some questions about HST, budgeting for cash flow and product mark-up.
Throughout the conference there was plenty of opportunity to network with past attendees and create new contacts; everyone was challenged to meet three new people. Of course there was also some time for fun — a fashion show, entertainment and scrumptious food stations rounded out the evening, allowing everyone to relax.
Overall the conference was a fun, empowering and informational event once again, and we were pleased to participate.
